Playing Elli’s Music

I turned on my favorite CD, “Always: Songs of Worship” by Steve Green, this morning and immediately remembered why it’s my favorite. Steve Green put this collection of songs together for people who are going through difficult times, and boy does it ever minister to my heart. One of the things that has changed since Elli died is that I don’t have anyone asking to hear music anymore. As soon as she got up in the morning, got home from school, and until she went to bed, she wanted to listen to music. Some of the kids’ CDs got very old, but she also loved worship music like this CD. I’ve decided that one way I can remember her is to play those favorite CDs every day. I didn’t realize how much that constant stream of music strengthened me each day. So even though it aches some to listen, I’m going to start playing her music again.

Here are the lyrics to one of my favorite songs on today’s CD (I can’t pick just one – they are all beautiful.) If you go to the website, you can listen to samples of the songs. Or order the CD — it’s well worth the money.

Always

You are good always
And in all ways
You are working all things
Together for our good
You are good always
In big and small ways
I know I can trust You
In everything You do

With the hard winds of life
Blowing out of control
It can feel like I’m all on my own
But You’ve given me Your word
And I know You’ll never leave
And I’ve never faced a single storm alone

I can’t say it’s always
Been a smooth open road
Or turned out the way I’d prefer
But one thing I’m sure of
You’ve been faithful to me
And I live to give You all that You deserve
