I want to color my hair aqua.
I’ve daydreamed about it since I graduated from college.
Because I’ve spent too much of my life trying to be just like everyone else.
But I’m not.
God made you and I unique. That aqua streak would remind me in every reflection that I’m not like everyone else.
Because Christians come in all shapes and sizes and colors.
Jesus went to the freaks, weirdos, oddballs, and rejects. He condemned the Pharisees for trying to look the part when their hearts were ugly. I need to remember that my and your tendency to judge by the cover is weak and shallow.
I am the same Joy, the same woman, wife, mother, daughter, with or without “normal” hair, clothes, and skin.
Because aqua is pretty.
Because I care less and less about what other people think.
Because I still care too much about what other people think.
The pragmatic side of me is still too loud, drowning out the beautiful impractical and unique with words like “professional” and “expensive” and “frivolous.”
I am still trying to escape the prison of pragmatism and embrace the beautiful impractical parable that is me.
What dreams do you have that you haven’t pursued? Why?
UPDATE: I did it! Check it out here.
